Support Groups
On Wednesday afternoons, a staff member (usually the Clinical
Coordinator) meets with the members for about an hour. Participation
is voluntary: you may go if you want or you may choose not
to if you wish. However, it is wise for new members to attend
Support Group on a regular basis. They find the service
very valuable and won’t know if they don’t go.
Social Activities
Most Friday evenings, after the day program is over for
the day, a staff member has planned some sort of social
event with Liberty House members. Usually this involves
a dinner of some sort (sometimes out to dinner) and an activity.
The social activities vary greatly and all are welcome.
You can even get a ride home afterward if you want. Also,
part of the weekly day program involves a recreational activity
on Tuesday afternoons. Sometimes the members go bowling,
shop at the mall or just go for a drive.
Other Services
Twice per week (on Monday and Thursday afternoons), staff
will take a van to one of the local supermarkets for shopping.
The primary reason is to get the necessary groceries for
the daily preparation of lunches offered through the kitchen
and snack bar. However, members who have no other way to
get groceries can tag along and get their supplies at their
own expense.
Liberty House also has laundry facilities. There is a small
fee for a load of wash and drying at $1.00.
The list of services and opportunities at Liberty House
does not end here. Liberty House has helped people with
moving, and at times has offered financial budgeting to
those in such need, we have helped people find an apartment
and have also helped members obtain necessary public assistance
they may need including food stamps, SSI and/or SSD.
Liberty House will also report your income to the Social
Security Administration as required, if arranged with the
Benefits Counselor. You can buy postage and send out your
mail. We also sponsor a vacation week for members in the
summer time full of recreational activities among other
services and activities.
